RETIRED NASA ASTRONAUT BILL SHEPHERD JOINS TREX ENTERPRISES TO LAUNCH FEDERAL SYSTEMS DIVISION

(San Diego, CA) Retired NASA Astronaut Bill Shepherd has joined Trex Enterprises Corporation and is leading the company’s newly created Federal Systems Division.  Captain Shepherd, who is also a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, will direct the development of Trex’s programs relating to defense, aerospace and homeland security.  Trex is a world leader in millimeter-wave and satellite imaging with offices in California, Hawaii, New Mexico and Massachusetts.

“Two of our main thrusts will be robotics and unmanned vehicle projects that are critical to our Nation and allies,” said Captain Bill Shepherd, USN (Ret.), President of Trex Federal Systems. “Trex’s core technological strengths in wireless communications, adaptive optics and millimeter-wave are significant and provide a superb platform for Trex Federal Systems.”

“Captain Shepherd’s connections and business relationships span the globe and will serve him well in building Trex Federal Systems,” said Admiral Thomas B. Fargo, USN (Ret), President of Trex Enterprises Corporation and Chairman of Trex’s subsidiaries, Loea Corporation and Sago Systems, Inc.

Captain Shepherd flew three flights as a mission specialist on Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-52, October 1992); Discovery (STS-41, October 1990); and Atlantis (STS-27, December 1988). Captain Shepherd served as the Program Manager and Deputy Program Manager for the International Space Station from 1993 through 1996.  He was selected in 1996 to command the first crew to live aboard the new orbital research complex.

Captain Shepherd was the only American in 1996 to live with two Russian Cosmonauts, where he trained for nearly five-years at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center near Moscow.  The “Expedition One” crew launched on a “Soyuz” rocket from Baikonur, Kazakhstan in October 2000, docked with the Space Station, and started initial operations in Earth orbit.  During their 141 day mission, “Expedition One” was visited by three Space Shuttles, added two modules to the Space Station, and completed a space voyage of 58,000,000 miles in March of 2001 landing onboard the Shuttle Discovery.
