(Kihei, Maui) Trex Enterprises, a global leader in sophisticated optical systems and millimeter- wave technology, is pleased to announce Wes Freiwald has joined the company as Vice President of Trex Hawaii and General Manager for Trex’s operations on Maui. Freiwald, who is the recipient of numerous corporate leadership awards, has nearly two decades of experience working as a technical manager overseeing all aspects of several multi-million dollar aerospace projects including Boeing’s Advanced Electro-Optical System (AEOS) program. As recently as last month Freiwald was recognized as the Air Force Research Laboratory Directed Energy Contractor of the Year.
After an enjoyable and successful career with Boeing, Freiwald recently came to Trex for the variety of opportunities a small company like Trex can provide. Freiwald most recently held the position of Director and Program Manager of the Maui Space Surveillance Site, which is managed by Boeing.
“Wes has an exceptional background in managing technical programs in Hawaii which will serve him well as General Manager for us here at Trex on Maui,” said Al Hunter, President of Trex Hawaii and Vice President of Trex Enterprises. “Wes will continue working with the Air Force Research Labs, the Boeing team, and other high technology companies in Hawaii. He has close personal ties with high tech companies in Hawaii.” Trex’s Maui operations have grown considerably over the years and it now employs about 40 people.
“Trex is a state-of-the-art technology incubator with an incredible future,” said Wes Freiwald. “I wanted to help facilitate the growth of Trex and be part of the wave as it comes to shore with new products and technologies! This is an exciting opportunity for me to help oversee numerous programs and help guide the future of the company.”
Trex Enterprises’ Maui operations are scheduled to relocate this spring to a new building in Kahului which is the first build-to-suit office building erected on Maui in the past 15 years. Trex is now incubating its own subsidiary companies Loea Corporation (high bandwidth communications), Silicon Kinetics Inc. (biosensors), and e-Phocus (high definition video chips for cell phones). All of these companies were born in Hawaii and are expanding here. They will share space with Trex in the new Trex Enterprises’ building.
